Gettin' the Word Out

A small local paper wrote an article about capoeira in Alaska. Yay! Hopefully this will really help spread the word. Well, that and the fact that we are hoping to do some rodas in the parkstrip, which is basically downtown. Let people see and start asking questions. :)

Italy!!

I'm all set, the tickets have been purchased. I'm going to Italy in July!

Now, all I need to do is figure out where the capoeira groups/games are, find places to stay, and have an overall stellar time.

Anyone have any recommendations on places to see, inexpensive places to stay (I generally do couchsurfing or hosteling), people I need to meet?

Next step... buying a quad band, unlocked mobile... *sigh*

RETURN..

Return.. To life, to capoeira.. I reentered the world on April 13th, my birthday, and every single day of my life has been amazing. Just to move through the world again is incredible, especially as in the context of freedom I can move with capoeira, in capoeira... Training is amazing, playing is amazing. My appreciation for life and everything in it is sky-high. And it's that gratitude, that appreciation for all the beautiful things in my life, that keep 'em coming.

Yay for more capoeira!

Exciting news!

Still have capoeira classes at the university, which I am part of. Fun, fun. But great, stellar news! There is another capoeira class being held in a yoga studio two to three times weekly. The teacher of that class and my teacher have met and are now working together. Quite frequently the teacher of the new capoeira class joins my class at the U.

Adding in the Muay Thai

So, this summer I found a place that teaches muay thai in my area this summer. I've been taking it these last couple of months while capoeira classes are on summer break (one of the downsides to having capoeira classes taught through the university). It has been great, though occasionally really entertaining. Trying to do evasions, and instead of ducking muay thai style, I go back capoeira style. Success!

I'm officially in a capoeira class! It's through the university. It's only once a week, but it is so much better than nothing. I guess and official group has been started in a town about 9 hours away. Hopefully that means the biggest city in Alaska will soon have an actual mestre and an actual group or two in it. High hopes!

It's about time!

As per usual, my capoeira has been painfully sporadic. Once again I will attempt to get into the class being held at the Uni (if only I can find it.. for some reason neither the teacher nor the class is showing up in the class catalog.. figures). There is once again hope in my heart.

Getting Fit and Healthy with Capoeira

I was overweight before capoeira. I weighed over 200 pounds with no workout or exercise whatsover. I was simply a slob.

But one day, I saw this incredible fighting game everybody knows as Tekken and I instantly loved the moves of one Eddie Gordo (or Christie if you really want to be uber specific). I wanted to learn how to dance and move like that.

As many of you know, we have sign a contract to open our own capoeira academy! Its a long time dream and with a few minutes and/or a few dollars, you could help us make this happen.
